First Things First – Deep Dive: Week 5 “God is Faithful”
“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of Him” (1 Jn 5:13-15, ESV).
What a wonderful assurance we have from God’s word! We can certainly know that we have eternal life, not because of anything we have done, but because of what God has done for us in Christ. He has saved us by His grace through faith in His Son, who died for our sins and rose again. He has given us His Spirit, who testifies with our spirit that we are children of God and heirs of His promises. He has also given us His love, which is perfect and never fails. He loves us with everlasting love, and nothing can separate us from His love.
How should we respond to such a great salvation? With gratitude, praise, and obedience. We should thank God for His grace and mercy and worship Him for his greatness and glory. We should also seek to do His will and please Him in everything. And one way to do that is to pray according to His will. When we pray according to his will, we can have confidence that He hears us and answers us. He knows what is best for us, and He delights to give us good things. He is not a distant or indifferent God but a loving and faithful Father.
So let us approach Him with boldness and humility, knowing that He cares for us and listens to us. Let us ask him for whatever we need, according to His will, and trust him to provide for us. And let us also praise Him for what He has already done for us, and what He will do for us in the future. He is faithful to save us, to testify to us, and to keep us in His love. Amen.
Always improve the present moment.
