Alpha and Omega: The Jesus I Need to Know | Week 6 “Perfector of Faith”

The Author and Perfecter of Faith: A Deep Dive Devotional

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Have you ever started something but struggled to finish it? Maybe it was a home improvement project, a New Year’s resolution, or even a spiritual discipline like daily prayer. Today, we’re diving into a powerful truth that brings hope to our journey of faith.

In Hebrews 12:1-7, we find these inspiring words:

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith.”

Think about those words – Jesus as the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. He’s not just a good example or a wise teacher. He’s the one who blazed the trail before us and shows us how to finish well.

When Jesus faced the ultimate test in the Garden of Gethsemane, He demonstrated perfect faith and obedience by saying, “Not my will, but yours be done.” Even when the cup of suffering stood before Him, Jesus remained faithful to the Father’s plan. His obedience wasn’t just about following rules – it was about deep trust in God’s perfect love and purpose.

This is why Jesus can be both our example and our foundation. He didn’t just tell us how to live – He showed us. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus created a blueprint for faithful living. When we stumble (and we all do), we can look to Him and find strength to keep going.

But here’s the beautiful part – Jesus doesn’t just stand at the finish line cheering us on. He walks beside us, strengthening our faith, helping us throw off what holds us back, and transforming us step by step. Through His sacrifice on the cross, He made it possible for us to have a relationship with God that empowers us to live faithfully.

As you go through this week, remember that your faith isn’t built on shifting sand. It’s built on the solid rock of Christ’s perfect obedience and sacrificial love. When challenges come (and verse 7 reminds us they will), fix your eyes on Jesus. Let His example inspire you, and His presence strengthen you.

We invite you to join us next Sunday for Week 7 of our Alpha and Omega series, where we’ll continue exploring the magnificent character of Jesus Christ. Until then, may you run your race with perseverance, knowing that the Author and Perfecter of your faith is right there with you.

Always improve the present moment.

In His Grace,
Corbin Riley
